Results

At the 2008 Beijing Paralympics in 2008, Australia finished second on the overall medal tally behind Great Britain. With 3 gold, 5 silver and 7 bronze medals combined across track and road events, Australia won more gold medals than any other country bar Great Britain and USA.

At the 2011 UCI Paracycling Track World Championships, held in Italy in March. Australia claimed 4 gold medals (Michael Gallagher; Felicity Johnson and pilot Steph Morton; Kieran Modra and pilot Scott McPhee; and Susan Powell), 2 silver medals (Susan Powell; Andrew Panazzolo) and 2 bronze medals (Bryce Lindores and pilot Sean Finning; Alexandra Green) to finish third on the medal table behind Great Britain and China.

When it comes to the road, Australia has 2 current world championship medallists - Michael Gallagher and Susan Powell - who both won silver in the time trial in 2010. The 2011 world championships will be held in Denmark in September. At this stage, Australia looks likely to qualify around 12 spots in total for London – most likely 8 men and 4 female - so competition for selection across both track and road will be fierce.
